The Lost Vacuum Cleaner!
Me: (Using a broom and dustpan to clean my house)
My brother: (Gasps) What are you doing? What happened to the vacuum cleaner that I bought you?
Me: (Trying to avoid eye contact)
My mother: (Takes my brother to the broom closet, shows him the vacuum cleaner kept there and also takes time to explain to him how it has been lying there for months and was never used.)
Well, I don’t deny it. I did keep the vacuum cleaner in the broom closet (Just to make everybody think I do use it!). I have not being using it for months. I used it for few days when my brother got me it (It was cool!), but then left it in the closet. But I do have my reasons for that.
It was heavy. I found cleaning with a broom and dustpan to be easier than carrying that vacuum cleaner around for cleaning. And that was not just it. It was not just the weight; there were quite a number of times when I tripped over the unending wire that followed me and the vacuum cleaner. Also, every time you turn it on for cleaning, it sounded like I worked in a factory (Not just loud, it was super loud!).
I couldn’t carry it around (because it was large). I tripped over a number of times (because it had a thin, long wire). It was just so noisy (What else, it was because of the motor).
I couldn’t return it back (because it was a gift). I could not resell it (because the world would think I was too old-fashioned not being comfortable using a vacuum cleaner).
But I had to clean. So what did I do then? I left it there in the broom closet, hoping when people see it they would believe I use it. (an idea that saved me from getting hurt –physically – every time I cleaned the house and an idea that saved my brother from being hurt – emotionally – when he saw I still had his gift and believed I was using it.)
All was good but the trouble arose with not having bought the right vacuum cleaner (and letting my mom speak on my behalf!). Vacuum cleaners are perfect machines, but make sure you choose the right one.
